The name Wolverhampton means ‘the high town or town on the hill’ and the city dates back over a thousand years. Famous for its markets the city has a long history of buying and selling so, as you would expect, the shopping experience is phenomenal drawing folk from miles around to the Mander and Wulfrun Centres and the food, collectors, craft and antiques markets.
It’s not too hard to ‘get away from it all’ either the city is bordered by some quite breathtaking countryside and parks (over 1400acres in all). There is also an extensive canal leisure network and several excellent museums and galleries.
Entertainment wise Wolverhampton holds a trump card from the Victorian splendour of the Grand Theatre to Civic and Wulfrun Halls, which host major international concerts; from the plethora a great pubs serving locally brewed Banks’s beer to the truly cosmopolitan choice of restaurants the, city really comes alive during the evening.
Wolverhampton may not spring to mind immediately when planning a break but it really does have an awful lot to offer for those looking for a weekend away.
