The population of Vigo is currently in excess of 294,000 making this the 14th largest metropolitan area of Spain. Vigo has a long and interesting history which started as a Roman settlement. After several attacks the city was given walls in 1656 and these are still partially preserved. Home to a host of museums ranging from the world of word to the contempary art.

Vigo is home to the Cies Islands, declared as a Nature Reserve in 1980 and the Montegaudo Island, whose beach was named number one of the top ten beaches in the world by The Guardian newspaper.
