The picturesque town of Stirling surrounded by some awesome scenery, is the ancient capital of Scotland, its location of strategic importance during the Jacobite rebellions of 1715 and 1745. The castle itself was the setting for the coronation of the young Mary, future Queen of Scots in 1543, when she was at the tender age of 9 months.

Every Scottish sovereign for over three centuries between and including Robert III and Charles II, used the 15th century Old Bridge, famed for Wallace's victory.
