On the High Street is the Hospital of the Blessed Trinity, largely unchanged since it was built in 1619,the hospital has some magnificent stained glass windows and is open to the public. The Guildford Museum has exhibits detailing the city and local history, and a number of items relating to the author of Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll who is buried in the city.

Just south of Guilford is Loseley Park, most well known perhaps for its dairy and cereal goods but worth a closer look. Loseley House was built during the reign of Elizabeth I. It was built for Sir William More and has remained in the family to this day. Open to the public the interior is a treasure house of paintings, antique furniture and tapestries.

A relatively affluent city Guildford has a large and varied retail centre with a number of department stores, the ‘high street’ multiples and a good mix of specialist shops. With over 80 pubs and clubs the city has an active nightlife. For those requiring gentler entertainment The Yvonne Arnaud theatre hosts a busy programme of arts and leisure. The town is well endowed with plenty of restaurants, cafes and bistros.

Close to London Guildford has good transport links to all parts of the country including both Heathrow and Gatwick airports
