You enter the old walled city through a decorative arch, which was once the facade of a palace. Inside are a tranquil square, the stark 13th-century fortress-cathedral, the 18th-century bishop's palace, and the archaeological museum. Just outside the walls is a marine museum. A few blocks away is the famous Carmo Church, with magnificent and tasteful gold-leaf woodwork, and its attached Bone Chapel, which was featured in my earlier article about Gothic Tales.
