More local spirit can be found 400m to the east on Praia dos Pescadores, or Praia dos Barcos as it is sometimes known, which translates as the Fishermen’s Beach.

Indeed, this beach harks back to the time when fishing was Albufeira’s main income, and you might spot several fishermen mending their nets by the multi-coloured boats. Praia da Ouro has its own beach, of course, which is more developed and often crowded. Along the next 10km of coastline are quieter beaches such as Balaia and Olhos de Água, and regular bus services run along the coast from Albufeira in the day.
